Digital health and artificial intelligence: the “Digital health and AI” project continues

20 December 2025 By

The end of activities has been set for December 2026.

The Provincial Council has decided to continue the “Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence” project in 2026. The initiative aims to test a reorganization of healthcare professionals’ workflows and operating methods made possible by digital technologies and artificial intelligence, with tangible benefits for citizens.

“The project, launched at the end of 2022, is based on two action  levels,” Councillor for Health, Social Policies and Cooperation, Mario Tonina explained. “On the one hand, innovation in our healthcare system through tools such as the TreC+ platform, which has enabled significant progress in telemedicine; on the other, research and testing of new solutions for the benefit of both health professionals and citizens. This is an important pathway that has already delivered concrete results, such as remote monitoring of patients with chronic heart diseases and the TreC Mamma App, which in just over two years has reached more than 5,000 expectant women. For these reasons, we believe it is essential to ensure continuity of the project by extending it for another year.
”“This is a concrete example of how research can generate real value for the community: collaboration among the healthcare system, research, and technology innovation makes it possible to turn scientific knowledge and experimentation into operational solutions that truly improve services and quality of life,” s aid Vice President and Councillor for Economic Development, Labor, Family, University, and Research, Achille Spinelli. “Extending the project through 2026 confirms our commitment to continued investment in research in a strategic area such as healthcare.”

The “Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence – Tools to bring the Health Service closer to citizens and for the development of the provincial system,”project carried out by the Trento Province Healthcare System and the TrentinoSalute4.0 Digital Health Competence Center, has delivered significant results across its areas of action, which will continue in 2026. These include testing an organizational model for the remote care and monitoring of patients with chronic heart diseases, built around the role of a reference nurse and effective, scalable operational workflows; the creation of clinically relevant knowledge bases that can be integrated with external databases; the rollout of the TreC Mamma App, now used by more than 5,100 women; and the development of a technological platform for delivering services through virtual assistants.

Building on this foundation, the project will be further advanced through strengthened data analysis and artificial intelligence algorithms, the extension of telemonitoring models to other clinical areas, expanded research in ophthalmology, diabetology, and pediatrics through the integration of public databases, and the consolidation of prevention activities. Particular attention will be given to support for pregnant women and during the postpartum period, especially in the first thousand days of life. (at – PAT press office)
