Telemedicine: over 4.3 million euros to the Autonomous Province of Trento thanks to the PNRR
(PAT press release of Monday, June 17, 2024 )
Another step forward towards the strengthening of telemedicine in Trentino: with the measure approved today by the Provincial Council, on the recommendation of the Councilor for Health and Social Policies Mario Tonina, 4,372,839 euros have been unlocked under the National Plan for Recovery and Resilience, Mission 6, Component 1. This is a specific investment for the development of telemedicine nationwide, which in Trentino is implemented in the Operational Plan approved last year. “Thanks to PNRR resources – commented councilor Tonina – we aim to implement telemedicine services throughout the Trento province in the areas provided for by the National Guidelines on the subject, namely diabetology, cardiology, pulmonology, oncology, neurology. The goal is to improve access to services and ensure that health is closer to people: in this sense, telemedicine is a useful support to improve the care offered to people with chronic diseases, support us in monitoring the health conditions of seniors in particular and, in perspective, can help us face one of the strongest challenges that await us, i.e. the aging of the population with the consequent increase in chronic diseases, ” Tonina concluded.
In the province of Trento, a specific Operational Plan and a related Organizational Model for telemedicine are implemented; the latter is a tool that provides for a central role of the Healthcare System, which is entrusted with the governance and coordination of telemedicine programs involving all the players of the Provincial Healthcare System. The objective is to extend the use of the different types of telemedicine services (virtual visits, virtualconsultation, remote follow-up, remote assistance) to all professionals involved in particular in the management of patients with the main chronic diseases, while ensuring the full integration of services with the national enabling platform that ensures circularity between Regions and Autonomous Provinces. The areas of
intervention range from prevention and health promotion, to the management of patients with chronic diseases, up to the management of home care, ensuring the use of telemedicine especially for check-ups and follow-up visits of patients already in the system, as well as virtual consultation and remote assistance, potentially in favor of the entire population, and remote monitoring, especially for patients with chronic diseases. Therefore, on the one hand, what exists in the Region territory
will be consolidated and, on the other hand, the use of the different types of telemedicine services will be expanded, also thanks to the support of TrentinoSalute4.0 and FBK. All this through a significant reorganization of the services and processes related to the management of chronic patients, using the tools that are already in use by operators (medical records, specialists, etc.), and by citizens (TreC+, app and portal).
Trentino has been allocated 4,372,839 euros, under the PNRR, Investment M6 C1: in order to make use of these resources it is necessary to enter into a specific Agreement with the lead Region, in this case Lombardy, which was simultaneously approved today by the Provincial Council.
