Digital social innovation for active aging: TS4.0 publishes with Springer

Digital innovation is increasingly becoming a key policy tool for addressing population aging and improving citizens’ well-being. In Trentino, TrentinoSalute4.0—an initiative involving the Autonomous Province of Trento, FBK, and ASUIT (formerly APSS, Trento province Healthcare System)—has been working in this area for several years.
The experience of the TrentinoSalute+ project, presented as a case study of digital social innovation applied to health promotion and active aging, has been published in the volume Building Innovation in Ageing and Health Policy. The book is edited by Alessandra Ricciardelli (Universitas Mercatorum, Rome) and Lorenzo Mercurio (University of Naples Federico II) and is part of Springer’s Series in Healthcare Management and Innovation.
The article, titled “Digital Social Innovation for Active Aging: TrentinoSalute+, a Case Study of Participatory Health Promotion,” was co-authored by Diego Conforti (Director of the PAT Innovation and Research Office), Martina Dell’Eva (Project Manager of TrentinoSalute4.0 at Fondazione Bruno Kessler), and Diego Ponte (University of Trento, DEM). It analyzes the pilot experience carried out in the Val di Sole area, focusing on the Salute+ app, the digital platform at the core of the project.
The contribution is part of the international debate on active aging and health promotion policies, emphasizing the role of digital tools in fostering citizen empowerment, community participation, and the development of collaborative, public-sector–led governance models. The case study shows how digital innovation, when supported by clear institutional guidance and participatory local processes, can make a concrete contribution to promoting healthy lifestyles, particularly in remote and mountain areas. The publication aims to provide useful insights for policymakers, researchers, and professionals working in public health, social innovation, and prevention and active aging policies.
