TRENTINOSALUTE4.0: THE INNOVATION LABORATORY THAT PUTS CITIZENS AT THE CENTER

A Trentino that is a laboratory of innovation in healthcare and thatnever loses sight of citizens. These are the strengths of TrentinoSalute4.0, the competence center for digital health made up by the Autonomous Province of Trento, APSS and FBK. Today councilor for health, social policies, disability and family Stefania Segnana, accompanied by the director of the health and social policies Department Giancarlo Ruscitti and the director of the innovation and research office of the same department Diego Conforti met the top management of Povo based FBK.
Secretary-general Andrea Simoni, the director of the ICT center Paolo Traverso and the Head of the Health and wellbeing Area Stefano Forti illustrated what TrentinoSalute4.0 has done in recent years. It was an opportunity to get to know – also through the stories of the researchers and project managers – this partnership that in the past three years has combined the skills of the three organizations to innovate the Trentino health system by accompanying the organization of local health services with research results.
“We are aiming for health care – stressed councilor Segnana – built together with citizens, which focuses on the person and accompanies them from birth to old age. Enhancing the suburbs and the autonomy of citizens means bringing health services to the homes of the people of Trentino also with the support of new technologies. TrentinoSalute4.0’s vision goes precisely in this direction “.
For this reason, the councilor confirmed the intention of the Province Council to keep financially supporting this work. Finally, during the meeting, preliminary considerations were shared to identify the guidelines on which TrentinoSalute4.0 will focus in the future.

In recent years, applications and services have been tested, thanks to special laboratories with people and health professionals. Examples are the new TreC_FSE app which allows users to access their electronic health records (FSE) through their mobile phones and the testing of an application for managing diabetes (TreC_diabete).

To date, solid foundations have been laid, both from a technological and field experimentation point of view, which will make it possible to build a robust technological and organizational health services structure in the future. In particular, TrentinoSalute4.0 has dealt with the management of chronic conditions (diabetic pregnant women, peritoneal dialysis at home and patients receiving oral chemotherapy at home). Primary prevention projects have been activated such as “Impronte”, “Due pass in salute con le Acli” and the Salute+ app. In the area of secondary prevention, the focus was on workers at risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and on families for the prevention of overweight children. And again, as regards access to services, the new TreC_FSE app was developed which allows users to view their electronic health records from their mobile phones, which in the coming months will be integrated with new functions (visit scheduling, authorizations for access to electronic medical records, medical fee payments).

The collaborations with patient associations, with local and national hospitals, with local agencies, with private companies, joint laboratories with the University of Trento, with partners of European projects and with the Trento School for Training in General Medicine, as well as with local companies are many. Of course there were also collaborations with local companies.

“Technology alone is not enough if it is does not build on organizational changes. Now – explained director Ruscitti – we aim to expand the number of users and improve the services with new features. The goal for 2020 on is to extend the experiments throughout the provincial territory and export good practices and projects, positioning Trentino as a model in Italy, in the Euregio Region and in Europe”.

“In Fondazione Bruno Kessler’s strategic plan – added secretary general Andrea Simoni – health and well-being represents one of our pillars. Thanks to TrentinoSalute4.0, we have shown that we are able to be effective in bringing health innovations to citizens living in the valleys, positioning Trentino on a national and European level and finally paying much attention to the new generations who will have to face the health challenges of the future”.
