Medicine is one of the most dynamic and evolving disciplines of our time, influenced by the advent of technologies and new ways of thinking. This evolution is largely driven by the convergence of three areas: law, telemedicine and artificial intelligence.<\/em><\/p>\n

This topic was discussed Friday, October 20, in Negrar di Valpolicella (VR), by experts during the event “The Medicine of the Future: When Law, Telemedicine and Artificial Intelligence meet,”<\/strong> organized by “Sacro Cuore – Don Calabria” research hospital and<\/strong> designed to explore and analyze this convergence and to provide an overview of the scientific, ethical and legal implications it entails.<\/p>\n

TS4.0 was also present at the speakers’ table with Andrea Nicolini,<\/strong> program manager of TrentinoSalute4.0 and Chief Public Administration Strategy Officer <\/strong><\/em>\u00a0at FBK<\/strong>, who gave a talk on “Telemedicine and PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan)<\/strong>,” as part of the session dedicated to telemedicine and Artificial Intelligence in the healthcare context.<\/p>\n

The discussion was articulate and rich in insights, thanks to the presence of scholars in the three fields, including Pasquale Giuseppe Macr\u00ec<\/strong><\/a> (forensic scientist and director of the Clinical Risk Center of the Tuscany Region), magistrate Stefano Giaime Guizzi<\/strong>, counselor at the\u00a0Court of Cassation,<\/strong>\u00a0and Paolo Crea,<\/strong><\/a> magistrate at the Court of Auditors<\/strong>.
\nThe issues addressed in the discussion are and will increasingly be at the center of the national debate in the coming years.\u00a0 It is now clear that artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing medicine, and systems based on this technology are capable of analyzing large amounts of data<\/strong> and assisting physicians in diagnosis and treatment planning.<\/strong> However,” experts warn, “this progress raises important ethical and legal issues<\/strong>, such as the responsibility of the health care provider in the use of AI,<\/strong> the protection of patient privacy<\/em> <\/strong>, and the need for appropriate regulations to ensure safe care and the right to health care at all times<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The possibility then of providing remote medical care<\/strong> through telemedicine<\/strong> tools proved to be particularly valuable during the COVID\u00ac19 pandemic<\/strong>. With Decree of the Ministry of Health No. 77 of 05\/23\/2022 covering the “Regulation on the definition of models and standards for the development of community care in the National Health Service”, a regulatory definition<\/strong> of telemedicine<\/strong> is introduced in the Italian legal system for the first time. Law<\/strong>, in fact, plays a fundamental role in guiding and regulating innovation, balancing it with the protection of patients and the protection of their rights. From these premises, the speakers analyzed and discussed the implications<\/strong> that digital innovation will have on the health care system and the medical profession, with the related liability profile<\/strong>, as the delivery of a service evolves from traditional to “digital”.<\/p>\n
