We are at the forefront of innovating the healthcare system thanks to the new technologies. With this intent, TS4.0 presented to the jury of the Politecnico di Milano Award the\u00a0ABILITA<\/a> service, in use in Trentino nursing homes (RSAs), which was among the nine finalists for the \u201cDigital Innovation in Healthcare<\/strong>\u201d award in the\u00a0telemedicine services category. The Trentino project was the runner-up\u00a0 , ex aequo with Ferrara Ausl’s project for the teleretinography service for diabetic patients.<\/p>\n

ABILITA \u2013 \u201cNuovo modello aziendale di Teleconsulto e Telecooperazione\u201c (New business model of Teleconsultation and Telecooperation) \u2013\u00a0<\/em>has been designed for healthcare professionals and facilities that host people who are not self-sufficient. In fact, the system involves the provision of a\u00a0Telecooperation<\/strong>\u00a0service\u00a0between the ABILITA hospital medical and health care team and RSAs physical therapists<\/strong>, through the use of a\u00a0certified platform integrated to the health care databases<\/strong>, which allows the secure sharing of documents useful for patient assessment. The process is initiated when the RSA’s physical therapist determines that an aid is needed for the patient in the facility.<\/p>\n

After completing the patient’s clinical records form and gathering other information useful for the assessment (e.g. video on patient’s walking, photos of aids already used), the physical therapist can proceed with\u00a0sending the request for assistance\u00a0through the\u00a0platform. Once it has received the required documents, the ABILITA\u00a0team<\/em>\u00a0is able to assess the request and therefore can proceed with the scheduling of a\u00a0video call in which, in addition to the hospital doctor and physical therapist<\/strong>, the RSA physical therapist participates with the patient. Once the most indicated aid has been identified, its availability in the central warehouse is verified and the ABILITA\u00a0team<\/em>\u00a0can digitally sign the prescriptive certificate directly from the Hospital’s Information System. The aid can then be delivered to the RSA, which, if necessary, can provide\u00a0feedback<\/em>\u00a0on the aid’s testing. The first version of the solution was completed in\u00a0October 2022<\/strong>\u00a0and is\u00a0being used by ten RSAs<\/strong>, who have processed over\u00a030 Telecooperation requests<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What are the benefits?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The possibility of\u00a0dematerializing aid prescriptions\u00a0<\/strong>has led to a significant reduction in the time and resources\u00a0that were devoted for these activities. For patients, especially those with disabilities, the main advantage was the\u00a0possibility of avoiding unnecessary travel for face-to-face visits<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Province of Trento has already won the Prize twice<\/strong>: last year with\u00a0TreC Cardiology<\/a>\u00a0(winning first place in the “audience” jury’s preference and second place in the “Hospital-Local communities Integration Services and Telemedicine” category) and in 2021 with\u00a0TreC Pediatrics<\/a>\u00a0(section dedicated to primary care support).<\/p>\n

Fondazione IRCCS “Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori”,\u00a0<\/em>Regione Puglia, FAIS<\/strong>\u00a0on the other hand, are the winners of the 2023 edition of the Politecnico di Milano School of Management’s Digital Innovation in Healthcare Award<\/strong>\u00a0, the recognition of the Osservatorio Sanit\u00e0 Digitale\u00a0which aims to create opportunities for knowledge and sharing of the best digital healthcare projects in Italy, awarded at the\u00a0“Sanit\u00e0 Digitale: vietato fermarsi!\u201d (Digital Healthcare: halting forbidden!) conference<\/a>. The award was given to the organizations that have distinguished themselves most in the ability to use modern digital technologies, selected\u00a0from 9 finalists.\u00a0A special mention went to the SoleLuna Social Cooperative, MD Concierge, the University of Bari and the Local Health Authority of Teramo. FAIS also wins the prize awarded by the public and Azienda Socio Sanitaria Territoriale \u2013 Ospedali Civili di Brescia wins the prize awarded by the Italian Federation of Hospitals and Healthcare Systems.<\/p>\n
