Due to the COVID-19 pandemic related restrictions, scheduled outpatient visits, with the presence of both the doctor and the patient, have undergone significant slowdowns in recent months due to organizational-structural limitations<\/strong>. Among these, the pre-triage stations at facility entrances, the small spaces where patients can wait or be visited, the need to reduce the potential opportunities for infection spread, with increased room sanitizing procedures at each service and compliance with “social distancing”, but also the lack of staff. The Autonomous Province of Trento, when resuming outpatient specialist activities, shared the opportunity to activate, among the general prevention measures, an innovative telemedicine<\/strong> service, effectively extending the traditional visit beyond the “usual” physical spaces. To do this, it was necessary to reorganize the health care network, facilitating the provision of remote services through digital devices, the Internet and new remote communication systems<\/strong>. But what is a virtual visit?<\/strong><\/p>\n With virtual visit we mean a tool, a service, offered by the health service that allows patients to contact and interact with the doctor remotely. The patient, with the support of the caregiver if necessary, can be visited by the specialist or general practitioner, even with the help of another healthcare professional who is close to the patient, and can receive indications and prescriptions for drugs or treatments.<\/p>\n During a virtual visit, a healthcare professional who is close to the patient can assist the doctor. \nThe challenge that the Trentino Research Enhancement Foundation, two years after its inception,
\nis addressing today is to help enhance and accelerate more advanced research and technologies – developed in Trentino-based research centers, universities and incubators – that are able to guarantee social utility for the local area. Hence our mission, helping research that helps people.
