Telemedicine: €3.2 million in PNRR funding
(a.t.) A new step has been taken to strengthen telemedicine in the Province of Trento. Today, the Provincial Council—on the proposal of the Councillor for Health and Social Policies, Mario Tonina—approved the allocation of €3,233,876.66 as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), Mission 6. This funding is dedicated specifically to the development of telemedicine at the national level, adding to the €4,372,839 already allocated last year under the same initiative.
“The resources provided by the PNRR,” noted Councillor Tonina, “enable us to enhance telemedicine services across the province. Our goal is to make healthcare more accessible and closer to the people. Telemedicine is an essential tool for improving care for chronic patients, better monitoring health conditions—particularly among the elderly—and, looking ahead, addressing key future challenges such as an aging population and the rise in chronic diseases.”
“In Trentino, an Operational Plan and a dedicated Organizational Model for telemedicine are already in place. These assign a central coordinating role to the local Healthcare System in managing digital healthcare programs, involving all stakeholders in the provincial agencies. The goal is to expand the use of services like virtual visits, teleconsultations, remote monitoring, and telecare—particularly for managing chronic conditions—while ensuring full integration with the national platform that fosters interoperability between Regions and Autonomous Provinces,” Councillor Tonina added.
The initiatives range from prevention to treatment, with special focus on home monitoring and follow-up care. The objective is to consolidate ongoing local projects and extend the adoption of telemedicine, supported by TrentinoSalute4.0 and FBK. This will be achieved through the reorganization of services, leveraging tools already in use by healthcare professionals and citizens, such as electronic medical records, the TreC+ platform, and dedicated mobile apps.
Specifically, the PNRR funds allocated to Trentino will be distributed as follows:
- €2,580,000 for the integration of Regional Management Systems and Minimum Telemedicine Systems with the National Telemedicine Platform
- €170,840.14 for specific integrations into local systems;
- €386,429.22 for medical devices;
- €96,607.30 for software development.
