New features for TreC Mamma: Workout, Nutrition, and a News Channel for Expecting and New Mothers in Trentino

1 August 2025 By

TreC Mamma, the innovative app offered free of charge by the Trento Province Healthcare System and dedicated to supporting pregnant women, has been updated with significant new features. In just 24 months, TreC Mamma has transformed the maternity experience for over 4,800 women, offering comprehensive and personalized support throughout pregnancy.

As of this week, the TreC Mamma app — a digital reference point for expecting and new mothers in the Autonomous Province of Trento — has been updated with innovations aimed at enhancing informational support and personalized assistance through interactive tools and scientifically validated content.

Key Updates:

  • Work out program via chatbot: A guided video showing physical exercises has been introduced, structured by pregnancy trimester. The material was developed in collaboration with obstetricians, gynecologists, kinesiologists, and physical and rehabilitation physicians, and validated by the APSS PM&R Unit. For women being followed in maternal-fetal medicine clinics for high-risk pregnancies or specific risk factors, consulting a healthcare professional before beginning the workout program is recommended.
  • Microlearning course on nutrition: A short training course focused on pregnancy nutrition will be integrated into the app and delivered via chatbot.  The educational module includes short explanatory videos followed by brief quizzes. The content was prepared by obstetricians, gynecologists, and nutritionists, and validated by the APSS Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition Department.
  • News Channel: A new communication channel is now accessible directly from the app’s main screen. This tool enables users to stay informed about TreC Mamma updates and can also be used by healthcare professionals to share information on childbirth classes, dedicated sessions, and other events of interest to women and their families.

Women already using the app only need to update it, while new users will find all the new features available upon first login.

A further update includes an anonymous approval questionnaire, available on the TreC Mamma home page. Completing the questionnaire — estimated to take about 10 minutes — is essential for gathering user feedback about the app and its features, helping to guide future development. The questionnaire will remain active through September 30, 2025.

These updates represent another step forward in expanding digital services for maternal and child health in Trentino, reinforcing the commitment of PAT and APSS — in collaboration with TS4.0 — to provide increasingly effective and accessible tools.

The TreC Mamma App

Available as of August 8, 2023, TreC Mamma has stood out for its ability to meet the needs of expecting women through a multidisciplinary approach. Average daily access data confirms user appreciation: every day, over 550 women use the app to check their appointment schedule, track their baby’s growth, and monitor pregnancy-related changes.

Usage data in detail:

  • To date, 4,804 Trentino resident women have downloaded the app, with an average age of 32 years.12.5% are women of foreign nationality.
  • 56% are experiencing their first pregnancy, 31.5% their second, and 12.5% their third or later.
  • The app is mainly downloaded in Italian (99.5%), but is also available in English and French.
  • The average gestational age at the time of download is 13 weeks.
  • The app’s informational content has been viewed 14,000 times in the past  6 months, 28,783 times in the past year, and over 43,000 times since launch.

Among the most viewed topics are those related to pregnancy check-ups, symptoms requiring urgent care, common pregnancy symptoms, and information about the first trimester.

The App offers a wide range of features, Including:

  • Viewing CUP appointments: Users can see all scheduled follow-up appointments through the Healthcare System’s CUP (Appointment Center), thanks to integration with APSS information systems.
  • Pregnancy monitoring: A calendar that tracks the baby’s development and the mother’s weekly changes, offering tailored advice for each stage.
  • Certified content: Scientifically validated information from the Trento Healthcare System (APSS), covering topics from physical to mental health, with tips for this important phase in life.
  • Pregnancy diary: A tool where mothers can record personal notes, upload documents, and save pictures.
  • Educational resources delivered through virtual assistant (GEA chatbot): articles, videos and factsheets on crucial topics such as health during pregnancy, mental well-being and preparation for childbirth.
  • Link to the support community: A virtual space with useful websites where women can share experiences and seek mutual support.

The app is promoted by midwives during first prenatal visit. A strong emphasis has also been placed on inclusivity: the TreC Mamma app is available in Italian, English, and French, ensuring accessibility for foreign pregnant women enrolled in the provincial healthcare system. The app will continue to grow and develop new solutions to support women and families on the beautiful journey of motherhood and parenting, offering comprehensive and personalized support.

The development of TreC Mamma is part of the project “Digital Health Care and Artificial Intelligence – Tools for Bringing Healthcare Services Closer to Citizens and for the Development of the Provincial System,” approved by the Provincial Council on December 22, 2022. This includes a prevention module dedicated to the “First Thousand Days of Life.” The goal is to create and validate a digital healthcare ecosystem to support women, children, and families in adopting behaviors that promote healthy lifestyles and mental well-being.
