Chronic diseases and Telemedicine: the Trentino Region among best practices
During the Covid-19 emergency, each Region tried to implement remote assistance systems, especially to manage the chronically ill and rare diseases and ensure continuity of care remotely. In some cases, this was possible via telephone or Skype, but in others an ad hoc platform had to be developed. Among these, the Province of Trento, through its Competence Center for the development of digital health – TrentinoSalute4.0, implemented actions to experiment with virtual visits in various medical specialties, including cardiology, oncology, diabetology, pediatrics.
Diego Conforti, director of the Innovation and Research Office of the Health and Social Policies Department of the Trento Province Government (PAT) and member of the TS4.0 board, spoke about it on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, during the virtual meeting organized by the journal “Policy and Procurement in Healthcare” (PPHC), (SEEd publisher).
Among the Italian areas that stand out for their use of telemedicine, there is also Trentino which has had the opportunity to exchange views with other Regions during the episode “Chronic diseases and Telemedicine: today’s best practices to mark the present and the future of remote assistance in Italy”. The guests (who joined the meeting remotely, included, in addition to Diego Conforti, Paolo Locatelli, scientific director of the Digital Innovation in Healthcare Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano, Francesca De Giorgi, director of information systems of the IRCCS Istituto Neurologico Besta of Milan, and Tommaso Petrosillo, director of information systems of ASL Foggia) described pros and cons and tried to identify the steps needed to make these practices systemic within the National Health System.
